From his Pink Man series critiquing consumerism to his gallery exhibiting underground artists, master photographer Manit Sriwanichpoom has built a reputation for stirring social commentary. This month, the French Embassy knighted him for his contributions to the arts. As he gears up for a new exhibition, Bangkok in Technicolor, we join him in his studio.

He is the founder and director of the environmentally-focused graphic design studio Conscious, as well as a popular guest lecturer on graphic design and typography. Before speaking at next week’s Bangkok International Typography Symposium 2014 (Nov 14-16), Wee told us why typeface matters.

Arin Rungjang, 39, is one of the few internationally recognized contemporary Thai artists specializing in installation art. His most recent work, Golden Teardrop, was shown in the Thai Pavillion at the 55th Venice Biennale and has been selected as one of 15 finalists for the Asia Pacific Breweries Foundation Signature Art Prize 2014, in collaboration with the Singapore Art Museum. BK caught up with Arin ahead of his talk at BACC on Nov 1 to discuss what installation art can do that other art forms can’t.
