BANGKOK RESTAURANT

Ba Hao Tian Mi (Thonglor)

Chinatown’s dessert specialist adds savory bites to the menu at its Thonglor flagship.

Ba Hao Tian Mi, the green-tiled cafe on Soi Texas that draws lines out the door for its Thai-Chinese desserts, enters bustling Thonglor with a bigger menu that adds savory items to the mix.

Set in a bigger space than its forebearer in Chinatown, this flagship branch also features the same sort of granite-topped and soft-curved interiors that evoke the Chinese diaspora.

The menu, meanwhile, offers a plethora of dishes that span flavors from Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan. Think spicy chili crab with deep-fried pumpkin mantou (B348), Taiwanese coffin bread mushroom chowder (fried bread with Taiwanese-inspired mushroom cream, B168), and the ultra-filling BHTM brunch set (B249), a Chinese-style brunch featuring scrambled eggs, fried pork cubes, Chinese sausage, salad, and bread with homemade butter.

For sweets, the shop sells the same signature puddings you would find in Chinatown but with some exclusive flavors that rotate monthly, like a soy milk-based fruit salad topped with fresh, seasonal fruit (B168) or a Trang-style kopi-milk tea pudding topped with coffee sauce, whipped cream, and a caramel crisp (B148).
