It’s perhaps no surprise to see Buriram PEA at the top of the league. Nor is it shocking to find TOT and Siam Navy occupying the bottom two places. But that’s where the predictability ends in the 2011 TPL. Army United, the team that finished rock bottom in 2010 is in third place, and look good value for that high position having won two and drawn two. A 3-0 home win over Muangthong definitely being their most impressive result to date. Osotspa-Saraburi – an average mid-table side last year – sit in second spot after their 5-1 destruction of Muangthong last week. And Police United, another 2010 mid-table team, are in fifth, but on the same points – eight – as Osotspa and Army.

At the other end of the table, Thai Port – League Cup winners and fourth-place-finishers in 2010 – are third-from-bottom, though to be fair, they’ve had a difficult run of games. There’s no shame in away defeats at Muangthong and Chonburi, and the draws they picked up at Pattaya and at home to Bangkok Glass were respectable results. BG have just one more point than Thai Port – three from four games – but, again, have been dealt a difficult hand by the fixture computer. An opening-day defeat at Pattaya was followed up by draws against Muangthong, Army and Thai Port.

Last, but certainly most surprising of all, is the fact that champions Muangthong United can currently be found languishing way down in twelfth place. The Twin Qilins are wildly unpredictable at the moment. Heavy defeats at Army United and Osotspa have been punctuated by fine home victories over Thai Port and T&T Hanoi (the latter in the AFC Cup) and decent draws at Bangkok Glass and, again in the AFC Cup, at Tampines Rovers in Singapore.
