Debut win for Chonburi
Only two of the scheduled three matches were played last weekend. Khon Kaen’s home match with Osotspa was postponed as their plan to temporarily use the stadium at Mahasarakham University (their stadium is being redeveloped) has yet to be approved. Meanwhile Chonburi christened their debut at their new stadium with a hard fought 2-0 win over Thai Port, and Sisaket were held to a 1-1 draw by Siam Navy.
People Power
A bad week for Brazilians as player Dudu, joins Muang Thong coach Carlos Carvalho out of work. We won't be seeing Dudu in a Buriram PEA shirt anymore. In fact, in all probability, he won't be seen in the shirt of any Thai club ever again after being banned from playing in Thailand for allegedly breaking the terms of his contract. Despite being one of PEA's best players last season, he, along with several of his team mates, was ordered to play on loan at PEA's Division 1 sister-club Buriram F.C for the 2011 season. The others complied; Dudu, to his cost, didn’t. PEA say that it's a contractual matter. They claim that his contract only allows him to play for either of the two Buriram clubs and – in light of his refusal to play for Buriram F.C – cannot therefore continue to play in Thailand. Both clubs are owned by well known politician Newin Chidchob.
Big Crowds
Despite the rather stop-start beginning to the 2011 season fans have still been flocking to games. BEC Tero’s match with PEA and Chonburi’s clash with Thai Port were both sell-outs. Sriracha’s match with Samut Songkhram was just a few hundred under capacity and around 10,000 were at Sisaket v Siam Navy. This weekend’s game between Bangkok Glass and Muang Thong will also be a sell-out.
This Weekend
As just mentioned, the biggest match in the Bangkok area is on Saturday at the Leo Stadium, Pathum Thani, as title contenders Bangkok Glass host champions Muang Thong. Elsewhere in the capital, Army United host Sriracha, and TOT entertain Khon Kaen at the Yamaha Stadium in Nonthaburi.
