There are just two TPL games in the capital this weekend, one each on Saturday and Sunday. Muangthong, whose title bid now hangs by a thread after they failed to beat Army midweek, make the journey south to the Thephasadin Stadium to take on BEC Tero on Saturday (True Sport 2). MTU’s hopes of landing a third consecutive TPL crown are nothing more than a mathematical possibility as they now lie 11 points behind the runaway leaders Buriram PEA. Tero, who have had a decent season, will still harbour hopes of finishing in the top four and will be boosted by the timely return of talismanic forward Teeratep Winothai for this game, which is definitely the pick of the weekend’s fixtures.
On Sunday, Army United host TTM Phichit at the Army Stadium, Din Daeng. Both clubs are on 30 points and will feel a victory will all but guarantee safety for another season (True Sport 2). Police United are technically at home on Saturday against Pattaya United, but as reported here will actually be playing in Suphanburi owing to the flooding at their Thammasat Stadium home (True Special 161).
The other capital clubs are out of town. Thai Port are at Sisaket on Saturday (T-Sport). The Port Lions will be happily ensconced in the safety of mid-table security if they can win in east Isaan; a relief after the torrid season they’ve had. And on Sunday, Bangkok Glass leave their flooded home far behind as they travel to the far north to take on Chiang Rai United (NBT 11). Elsewhere, Sri Racha host Osotspa-Saraburi on Saturday (NBT 11), and on Sunday champions-elect Buriram PEA are at Siam Navy (True Special Sport) and Khon Kaen are at home to Chonburi (Siam Keela TV).
The pick of the Division 1 matches is on Sunday when Bangkok FC welcome RBAC to the Bang Mod Stadium (3.30pm). It’s a relegation ‘six-pointer’ which neither side can afford to lose, so expect a draw. Bangkok United are at Chiang Mai on Sunday, and BBCU will be as good as in the TPL if they can beat Samut Prakan Customs at the Lad Krabang 54 ground at 3.30pm on Sunday.
