Muangthong United put a serious dent in local rivals BEC Tero’s title aspirations after a well-deserved 1-0 victory at the Yamaha Stadium on Saturday. They left it late though, having to wait until the 83rd minute for Jakkraphan Pornsai’s goal to cement their overall dominance. The defeat sees BEC slip to fourth, just one point ahead of Muangthong and the Fire Dragons are now eight points behind leaders Buriram.

Still, the Thunder Dome left it even later to maintain their unbeaten run. Having trailed by two goals at half time, they needed two injury time goals to get past unfancied Thai Navy in dramatic fashion. The 3-2 victory means Buriram keep their 3 point lead over Chonburi, who kept up the pressure with an impressive 6-1 demolition of Khon Kaen FC.
Amazingly, Buriram’s win wasn’t the only late, late show this weekend. In the capital, Bangkok Glass pulled off the same unlikely feat, when striker Sarayuth Chaikamdee netted twice in injury time to help the Glass Rabbits come from behind to beat Chiang Rai United 3-2.

It was more mundane stuff in the other fixtures featuring Bangkok teams, yet Insee Police United’s 1-0 away win over Pattaya United does see them leapfrog BEC to move into third. Army continued their indifferent form, with a 1-0 defeat away to TTM Phichit, TOT SC went down 3-1 to Samut Songkhram, while a big contingent of away fans at the PAT Stadium saw their Sisaket team hold out for a goalless draw with Thai Port. In the story of their season, Port missed some gilt edge chances and are still looking over their shoulder at the relegation places. See the current table here.
