Buriram maintained their stranglehold on the top spot of the TPL after a hard fought and slightly luck 1-0 win over Thai Port yesterday. A packed and vociferous PAT stadium watched an absorbing and entertaining game which saw both sides create plenty of chances. In the end, only a close range Franck Ohandza strike could separate the two teams, thanks in no small part to the excellent performance of Thunder Dome keeper Sivaruk Terdsungnern who pulled off a string of fine saves including a first half penalty block.

The result means Buriram extend their lead to 11 points over closest rivals Chonburi who didn’t play this weekend. Still Port, whose fanatical and over-zealous supporters caused a temporary halt in the second half when a few objects were thrown onto the pitch, did themselves proud and will have no fear about the potential of meeting Buriram again in the upcoming League Cup final, if Buriram get past Chonburi in the second leg game this Friday.

In a busy weekend of fixtures the main Bangkok derby of the weekend saw BEC Tero host the struggling Army United. It was the Fire Dragons who came out on top courtesy of a 63rd minute strike by Ronnachai Rangsiyo. While the home win sees Tero stay in the hunt for a top four finish it continues Army’s alarming slump in form.

Bangkok Glass do remain in fourth though, thanks to an emphatic 4-0 home win over TTM Phichit, with all their goals coming in a first half blitz. Police United left it a little later to secure their three points, with a 2-1 home win against Chiangrai United. The game looked to be heading for a draw until a late, late winner from Charkrit Buathong meant Police took all three points to remain firmly in mid-table.

Meanwhile, the agony continues for TOT fans, as they saw their side hammered 4-0 by Osotspa up at the M-150 Saraburi Stadium. It leaves TOT hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone. Elsewhere, Pattaya United defeated SCG Samut Songkhram FC 3-0, while Khonkaen and Sisaket played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday.
