Most people who do not plan to vote in the Mar 3 gubernatorial election told pollsters that they are simply “bored with politics.” Bored? BORED? This election is so exciting, it’s like H&M and Ikea and Siam Center all opening on the same day. It’s like getting a lifelong VIP express queue-cut pass to After You. It’s like having your own personal BTS train that picks you up in the morning and plays your favorite Youtube videos instead of ads. ‘Tis the season when everything is possible, when Bangkok becomes one big dreamland.

Pongsapat—that’s the Pheu Thai guy—has promised free energy drinks and parking spots for motorcycles. How awesome is that? Sukhumbhand has promised more ramps and elevators in the BTS, which is a tad less whimsical, but still… Just imagine if both could win, you could ride your motorcycle into the BTS, park it outside the office and save on Starbucks by chugging free M-150s once you get to your destination.

See, that’s the thing. From now until Mar 3, you can get it all. You don’t have to pick sides just yet. In fact, how about we throw Suharit in the mix. Maybe he could even drive that private BTS, dropping some serious beats on the train’s Technics decks so you can sweat off that energy drink. Cool, right?
And then there’s independent candidate Jongjit Hirunlabh. She says people are bored with politics because they are “longing for someone who is free from political influence to improve the city academically and systematically.” Wait, what? That’s not very fun. Her policies include “a wastewater treatment facility, promoting recycling and developing green areas.” Is she nuts? Has no one told her what constitutes serious policy?

We want dreams, Jongjit. We know we won’t get any of it after the election, so let’s at least enjoy the next few weeks. We want free candy, we want a petting zoo with baby pandas, we want Bangkok to bid for the World Expo, the next Olympics and the World Cup. And we don’t want to wake up any time soon.
