La Toscana Resort
Buzz: Among rapidly mushrooming white Greek-inspired resorts in Suan Phueng, La Toscana appears to be the only one that boasts a different style—Tuscan. Recently awarded the Best Boutique Hotel accolade from the TAT, La Toscana also has 19 suites designed by B-Grey Architect (our beloved, who also designed Gurich and The Scent in Koh Samui), all crafted from local materials, like bricks made from local mud and woodcrafts by local carpenters. In response to the area’s obsession with sheep, the resort is importing some cute alpacas (a woolly, camel-type mammal) from South Africa, which will be arriving around October.
Hot: Though it’s pretty new, walking into the resort you feel like you are really in a vintage village in the Italian countryside. Every detail is typically Tuscan: roof tiles burned in different temperatures to create different shades and warm-colored terrazzo floors with aged lines. There are also no sheep here (thank god) so if you’re sick of them, this place is your hideaway.
Not: For those who can’t live without the internet, we regret to inform that the Wi-Fi does not cover the whole area. Also the terrazzo floors can get slippery, so watch your small children closely.
Neighborhood: Not near anything, but a ten-minute drive will bring you to the super popular The Scenery Resort for their grill restaurant (or to pet sheep, if alpacas aren’t your thing).
F&B: Cucina Ristorante on the second floor of the lobby building serves nice steaks and other grilled goodies, as well as buffet breakfast. Top Koaysomboon
