Overview: If you aren’t lucky enough to have a rich general in the family, Hommuenlee offers a new and affordable option to escape to Khao Yai. The resort‘s location on a hillside means you can enjoy the twin benefits of scenic views and reliable breezes.

The décor: Eschewing the usual Khaoyai trend for themes, there are no Wild West or Tuscan villas here, just simple huts in a choice of European or Thai styles. The two interconnected wooden Thai-style villas are suitably rustic (they share a bathroom) but benefit from a location on the banks of a river and large open deck. The modern country villas, located higher up the hill, are decked out like a brand new Bangkok condo with lots of white and plenty of sleek lines. Every villa has its own terrace.

Food and drinks: Even though Hommuenlee Bar & Restaurant is situated in a modern tropical sala, the cooking is all about Japan. The owners claim it is the only shabu-shabu restaurant in Pakchong and they offer a variety of sets (beef B240, pork B260, chicken B240, mushroom B280), as well as Thai and interntional dishes like deep fried chicken wings and smoked sausages and bacons

The good: The resort has a good location with a pretty view and you get a lot of villa for your money thanks to the large open air deck. Each villa really is very private which can be rare these days—a chance to truly escape from the crowds.

The bad: The resort is still very new so the vegetation is still a little underdeveloped; we reckon it could get hot in the summer months. The location is quite a long way from Palio, if you really insist on doing some shopping while you’re in the area.
