KRABI HOTEL

Mercure Krabi Deevana

Overview: Ao Nang Soi 8 has the most hotels on the busy Ao Nang strip, and Mercure Krabi Deevana is the largest one of them all, in terms of room numbers. If not exactly boutique, the 213-room hotel does boast a pleasant contemporary décor inspired by Southern-Thai architecture, using lots of local woods, blue tones, and décor details reminiscent of bird cages—a favorite hobby of the locals.

Food and drink: Kingfisher restaurant offers all-day dining with a dinner theme that changes daily. Thai night buffet on Fri (B450) is probably best left to the tourists, but the seafood buffet on Sat (B650) is a pretty good deal with unlimited fish, shrimp, crab and more. Despite being a lobby lounge, the bar feels cozy enough to make it the perfect spot to chill-out with some nice cocktails.

Spa and facilities: The Swan Spa’s focus is aromatherapy treatments. We’re particularly impressed by the lagoon-like pool which stretches for more than 50 meters and features slopes, hydrotherapy spots and faux waterfalls. There’s also a fitness center and a kid’s club.

Good: It’s the best choice on the busy Ao Nang Soi 8, with a perfect combination of comfy rooms and large pool. Book a pool access room if possible.

Bad: The soi is not beachfront and the hotel is deep in the soi—count a 5-minute walk.

Rates: Introductory rates are from B1,710 for a superior room, exclusive of taxes.
