24 Hours in Samui

8:30am. Kanomjeen for breakfast

On the third day when you’re fed up with the hotel’s buffet breakfast, head out for something spicier with a local breakfast. Kanomjeen Pa Maitree (Maenam Beach soi 4, 077-247-075) offers kanomjeen with various soups, like southern-style nam ya and gaeng pla at only US$1 a dish.

9:30am. Go island hopping

Book an island-hopping daytrip with Lompraya High Speed Boat (US$61-US$71, 02-629-2569) to experience the picturesque underwater world around Koh Pha Ngan, Koh Tao, Koh Nang Yuan and/or Angthong National park. They’ll even throw in lunch so just bring a towel and sunscreen.

6pm. Indulge in a luxe dinner

After a whole day of sun bathing and snorkeling, you need something luxe to spoil yourself. Buzzed as one of the best Italian eateries on the island, Prego (Amari Palm Reef, Chaweng Beach, 077-422-015) promises highlights like penne al arrabbiata or pan-fried snowfish medallions with a vegetable caponata.

8:30pm. It’s play time

Samui has not one but two beach clubs to suit your mood. Beach Republic (www.beachrepublic.com) on Lamai Beach welcomes a hip clientele at its infinity pool for a laid-back vibe early, with international DJs occasionally stopping by to lift the energy. Or try Nikki Beach (www.nikkibeach.com/kohsamui) which takes the Miami concept and brings it to Samui with some hedonistic parties on weekends.
