Stylish Sleeps

Three new boutique hotels to make you wish it's bedtime.

The Heritage Baan Silom

Concept: Self-dubbed as “eclectic,” the concept of this mini hotel focuses on the blending of opposites. You’ll find modern design touches in ancient settings, Eastern décor fusing into Western furnishings and the graphic clash of black and white. The hotel is also building on our heritage by sticking to a King Rama VI theme throughout.

Facilities: This colonial style building is divided into three stories, incorporating a total of 36 rooms. Five of its rooms are deluxe, with different themed decorations and classic touches such as crystal chandeliers and Victorian bathtubs. There’s also a restaurant and bar downstairs that serves Thai fusion dishes in a retro setting.

Neighbors: Though it is located on Bangkok’s action-packed Silom Road, you’ll find no unsavory individuals taking occupancy here. Stylish galleries and chic cafes surround the hotel, courtesy of the swanky Baan Silom Lifestyle Arcade.

Rates: US$80-US$86 for a studio, US$86-US$93 for a superior and US$96-US$103 for a deluxe room.

Reflections Rooms in Bangkok

Concept: Moved and revamped, the hotel retains its strong personality: funky, artistic and bold. The new Reflections in Pradipat also remains a stage for renowned and fresh indie artists. It features 30 chic studios (six more are coming within three months) in two rows of shop houses. Each room reflects a different designer’s personality—from the scary My Boo Shit, where bad taste reigns supreme, to the colorful stained glass and teak retreat by Lalita Sasiprapha and even a nostalgic and very upcountry-style room called the Copy Place.

Facilities: Shower, air-con, TV, wi-fi and everything you could expect from an upper class guesthouse. The friendly staff is ready to help at all times. Too bad the new location isn’t ideal there, no pool.

Neighbors: The only interesting spot nearby is JJ. Guest should be inveterate weekend shoppers or artists who want to chill in Sanam Rot Fai.

Rates: US$62-US$75, depending on type/size of room.

Take a Nap

Concept: Aimed at backpackers and Thais too drunk to drive home, this family run 36-room budget hotel done in electric colors delivers the essentials: a good night’s sleep. The size of the rooms go from super small singles (15-17 sqm) to doubles (26 sqm). There’s even a dorm (seven beds in one room). Each room is decorated with an intriguing mix of printed or painted pictures: cute bears, yak wat chang and more.

Facilities: In your room, you will have a safety box, hangers, a TV (though it only has 4 channels), coffee, tea and a telephone, which can be used only internally. There is a pool table available (24/7) in the lounge area.

Neighbors: A 5-minute walk from Silom Road and a blink away from notorious nightlife spots. Guests are mostly short time city hoppers and young Asians in town for shopping. There are also some just sleeping off some intense partying.

Rates: US$12 (dormitory per head), US$33 single bed, US$43 for twin, US$38-US$50 for a double and US$66 for 4-bed room.
