The Inn Crowd

BK visits some of the city’s newest designer hotels.

Citi Chic Boutique Suite

Where: 34 Sukhumvit Soi 13, 02-342-3888. www.citichichotel.com
Concept: Another tiny “boutique” hotel tucked away at the end of a soi, and better-equipped than you might think.
Price: US$83-US$90
The Lowdown: Despite its size (only 37 rooms), Citi Chic has a lot, including a gym, swimming pool (rooftop), dining area and bar. Every other floor is decorated in either purple or green. The ground floor rooms also have balconies, which even open up to the balcony next door if your friend is staying there.
Who’s sleeping here: Young chic professionals, dancing queens and fun loving people.
Facilities: Pool, Gym, Free WIFI, Restaurant, Bar, BTS

Le Fenix Sukhumvit

Where: 33/33 Sukhumvit Soi 11, 02-305-4000. www.lefenix-sukhumvit.com
Concept: A hip hotel with vivid, colorful and flashy design touches. Everything here is L-shaped, from the windows to the paintings.
Price: US$74-US$74
The Lowdown: The building is bright white with red and orange flourishes, and some of the 147 rooms are blue and some are green. The L-shape windows may make you go “huh?” at first, and they don’t provide the best possible views, but since the nearby landscape isn’t phenomenal, you may not mind. Don’t miss the “sexy pool,” a transparent glass pool on the seventh floor, which overlooks busy Soi 11. And people from outside can actually see you swim. Just five minutes walk to Bed Supperclub and Q Bar.
Who’s sleeping here: Young, hip, partygoers, or those with an L-shape fetish.
Facitlities: Pool, Restaurant, Bar, Gym, Parking, BTS

Ma Du Zi

Where: 9/1 New Ratchadapisek Rd., corner of Sukhumvit Soi 16, 02-615-6400. www.maduzihotel.com
Concept: It’s exclusive, super-secret and super-slick and promises elite service and amenities. Wallpaper*-friendly design and they didn’t skimp on materials.
Price: US$280-US$397
The Lowdown: You won’t necessarily know that this is a hotel from the outside since there is no sign or name in front. The 41-room property offers special giant beds, super fine made-to-order bed sheets and a great sound system in each room. Extra large bathrooms with giant tubs that fill from the ceiling, big walk-in-closets, a real coffee maker and illy coffee are other nice touches you will find in each room.
Who’s sleeping here: Celebrities, moneyed executives, investment bankers or locals who need to escape while staying right in the
heart of the city.
Facilities: Parking, Free WIFI, Restaurant, BIZ Center, Gym, BTS, MRTA

S15 Sukhumvit Hotel

Where: 217 Sukhumvit Rd., corner of Sukhumvit Soi 15, 02-651-2000. www.s15hotel.com.
Concept: Modern and stylish yet small hotel located in the middle of a business/entertainment zone.
Price: US$131-US$189
The Lowdown: Nothing so special from this brownish/orangey boutique 72-room hotel where every room looks similar, offering just basic services and facilities, and the same-style wooden beds. But great location with easy access to public transportation.
Who’s sleeping here: Businessmen here for meetings.
Facilities: Spa, Gym, Free WIFI, BIZ Center, Restaurant, Bar, Pool, Parking (limited)

Siam@Siam Hotel and Spa

Where: 865 Rama 1 Rd., 02-217-3000. www.siamatsiam.com
Concept: One-of-a-kind design from the lobby to the top floor of the hotel. Every square inch of this place has unique flourishes.
Price: US$1-7,200
The Lowdown: The location is a little off, but so is Siam@Siam—in a good way. Step into a world of orange, dark tones and raw concrete, steel and wood. All 203 rooms are five-star flash. And who knew that National Stadium could look so cool (from the 11th-floor bar)?
Who’s sleeping here: Shopaholics, design lovers, Europeans.
Facilities: Pool, Parking, Spa, Restaurant, Bar, Free WIFI, BIZ Center, Gym, BTS

Tivoli Hotel

Where: 71/2-3, Soi Sri Bumphen, Yen-Arkart Rd., 02-249-5858.
www.thetivolihotelbangkok.com
Concept: A stylish city hotel situated in residential area, which is also near business areas (Sathorn and Silom).
Price: US$78-US$231
The Lowdown: It looks like an apartment building rather than a boutique hotel but when you step in, your perception changes. Some have commented that the reception area of the hotel is similar to Dream Hotel. There are 133 rooms, each one bathed in creamy brown or some sort of earth tone, with a twist of orange. It’s pretty typical compared to what other hotels offer, boutique or not. But what we like is the rooftop bar next to the pool where you can enjoy the quiet while peering at the view.
Who’s sleeping here: Quiet businesspeople who don’t need too much excitement, or a closeted gay who wants to visit Babylon.
Facilities: Spa, Parking, Restaurant, Bar, Pool, Gym, Function Rooms
