SINGAPORE RESTAURANT

The Pelican Seafood Bar & Grill

This Gatsby-glam spot, with its red leather booths, specializes in East Coast American seafood fare. Try dishes like the baked snapper pie, old‑fashioned crab cakes, as well as the Pelican raw platter. Most recently, they've introduced set lunches and, more excitingly, an a la carte weekend brunch menu with stuff like bagels, oyster platters and frittatas. When the weather’s fine, be sure to grab a cocktail and opt for a table on their alfresco deck.

The buzz: Seafood seems to be all the rage at the moment, what with this recent addition from the folks who brought you Fat Cow and Marmalade Pantry at One Fullerton, as well as newbies like Bayside Crab Deli & Bar (spitting distance from the Merlion) and Majestic Bay Seafood Restaurant.

The vibe: Warm yet sleek with inviting orange leather booth seats, a cool copper feature wall and fun elements like hot pink seahorse fixtures. When the weather’s fine, be sure to opt for a table at their alfresco deck; the view of the waterfront isn’t too shabby.

The food: This new seafood destination’s inspired by classic East Coast American cuisine—group exec chef Dan Segall hails from Boston—so expect goods like Old Fashioned Crab Cakes ($24), baked snapper pie ($40) and The Pelican Burger ($35). Don’t pass on the black peppered candied bacon ($16) and signature Pelican platter ($138), with freshly-shucked oysters, clams, lobster, crab and prawns—especially if you’re a hardcore seafood fan.

The drinks: The cocktail-leaning beverage menu is the handiwork of Richard Gillam, with tipples like the well-balanced Pelicillin ($24), a Lagavulin Islay Malt Whisky-based concoction with Drambuie, lemon, passion fruit and nori. Alternatively, there’s also a strong wine with over 70 labels organized by grape varietal (from $17/glass, $75/bottle) from countries including Australia, Italy and France.

Why you’ll be back: The mean drinks and awesome view are reason enough, but add on some luscious seafood in a classy setup (not a bib in sight) and you’ve got yourself a winner.

When the weather is good, eating outside can be a truly enjoyable dining experience. These joints with charming open air areas are just the place to dine on breezy evenings.
