We’ve long been fans of Little India, home to more than a handful of the city’s best Indian restaurants (and so affordably priced, too). But there are other restaurants like French bistro Cocotte and Broadcast HQ that add flavor and diversity to the area. The joint effort of 40 Hands’ Harry Grover, his brother George of Aussie music company Broadcast Events (aka resident DJ Darkwing), and the Spa Esprit group has birthed an oh-so-cool music, food and drinks establishment in a two-story shophouse. The industrial chic space, with exposed brick walls and concrete flooring, also houses a retail area selling alternative albums. What’s appealing here isn’t just the relaxed vibe; the food’s also superb. The menu’s got a heavy emphasis on meat, with chargrilled items like Vegemite lamb rack ($38) and the signature Broadcast St. Louis-style ribs ($30), you even get to pick your glaze (the miso-black pepper and tamarind-maple are sure bets); especially great when washed down with Little Creatures Pale Ale ($10), a nod to Perth native Grover’s roots no doubt. Not to be outdone, the Crack & Cheese with Truffle ($16), their version of macaroni and cheese, is an absolute must. Another dish worth a go is the zesty chicken breast with chili peppers and yuzu ($25). It’s unfortunate that their desserts lack the oomph their mains possess. That said, few spots in town have mastered the lethal combination of excellent grub, mean drinks and cool tunes, and this hip spot has it down pat.
