Tucked alongside a lotus pond in a gorgeous antique house in Thalang, Phuket, Maa Doo Bua (“Come Look at the Lotus”) is a new restaurant that celebrates the humble lotus stem. Forget potato French fries; here, lotus stems are deep-fried to golden perfection. Other signatures include lotus stems stir-fried with shrimp paste (B250) and relish made with flower stems and fresh prawns (B420). Maa Doo Bua also offers decadently sweet treats, like thick sweetened cream panna cotta with candied lotus stems (B195).
