De Tummour (Gaysorn)
The Tummour chain steps up its game.
The latest offshoot of Thai-Isaan favorite Tummour (50 branches and counting) takes a more upscale route.
Nestled in Gaysorn Plaza’s third-floor Food Path, De Tummour boasts a more urban feel with industrial light fixtures, furniture and Chinatown-evoking metal shutters joining the usual array of traditional bamboo rice containers and decorative mortar and pestles.
Somtam lovers should try the pla ra-heavy tum yok thad (B220), which is packed with (lots of) chilies and comes with 11 sides (from peanuts to salted eggs to rice vermicelli) to take down the heat somewhat. Have it with some deep-fried spicy wings (B280)—the perfect sidekick.
One dish exclusive to De Tummour is the juicy Krung Sri Prawn (grilled river prawn with a sour-spicy sauce, B950), which totally lives up to its price tag.
For those struggling with the spiciness, skip ahead to the poached banana and refreshing coconut ice cream (B88).
Roselle, pandanus and longan juice (B60) provide a healthier alternative to soft drinks.
