BANGKOK VENUE
Isabel Marant
The buzz: French-born fashion house Isabel Marant started off as “Twen,” a line of knitwear, before establishing itself as a go-to brand for Hollywood celebrities. With ready-towear bohemian-inspired clothes, shoes, and accessories like scarves and bags, the brand puts the emphasis on natural design and practicality with some boyish-but-casual twists. Now, Isabel Marant has landed here in Thailand, at Central Embassy.
The décor: The first Isabel Marant store in Thailand sees a collaboration with French architecture firm Ciguë; together they have come up with a concept that combines Thai craft culture and contemporary minimalism. Weaved bamboo features prominently on the walls lined with racks of Isabel’s designs. A green-leafed tree is the natural centerpiece of the store, encircled by contemporary materials like brass, mirrors and concrete.
The products: Isabel’s new spring/summer 2014 collection has taken her “boho” designs to another level, pairing the romantic and rustic style with a dark rocker look. This manifests in such combinations as crude leather pieces and feminine lacey details; think romantic flounce skirts paired with black leather, white frilly dresses and lace tops combined with rough leather pants.
