The Opus in Thonglor Soi 10 has welcomed the well-known seafood importer Sea Truffles to join the new "Foodtopia" space. Originally a supplier to top restaurants around Bangkok such as Crab & Claw and The Dock, Sea Truffles has now opened its very own seafood bar.
The menu features four types of organic seafood: sea urchin, Maine lobster, oyster and cobia. The menu's shining star is the organic bafun uni. Harvested from Danu, Philippines and imported by Gary Stewart and Duangruethai "Aey" Promkheeree themselves, it is free from any firming chemicals or preservative agents. The Japanese influence can be seen in the preparation of the bafun uni - rolled out as uni sashimi (B499/50g), uni sushi (B299/piece; B790/3 pieces; B1,190/5 pieces) or uni ravioli stuffed with shiitake and cooked in a dashi (Japanese cooking soup with dried kelp and bonito fish flakes) and cream sauce (B299/3 pieces; B449/5 pieces). This delicious sauce is also drizzled over the uni udon, as well as generous heaps of whole sea urchin roe and salmon roe (B499), making it our personal fave dish.
The oyster selection includes Irish oyster IPO (B150/piece) and Gallegher oysters (B199/piece), and can also be ordered cooked (starts at B179 for IPO). The Surf & Turf (B1,299) pairs a steamed Maine lobster with an Australian steak from Accidental Butcher that's rubbed with a secret mix of miso and garlic. If that's too excessive, simply order a fresh, steamed lobster (market price), or try it in a Pad Thai (B790). The Cobia Crudo (B290) is sourced directly from Ocean Source (OSG), a sustainable Cobia farm in Phuket, and served fresh with a spicy lime and chilli sauce.
The Boardwalk fries with wasabi mayo dipping sauce (B150) are a delicious guilty pleasure and go perfectly with a glass of sake or wine. Or, grab a beer from the bar nearby and relax in the communal space.
For those with a sweet tooth, Sea Truffles also stock Malagos chocolate buttons (B35) which are harvested from a bean-to-bar plantation in Davao City, Philippines. This chocolate is internationally award-winning, including the 2017 Academy of Chocolate Awards in UK, 2016 Great Taste Awards in UK, 2015 International Chocolate Awards in Germany, and the 2013 Asean Best Food Products Recognition Awards in Singapore. The perfect post-meal treat.

The buzz: The latest addition to Opus on Thonglor Soi 10 is all about uni (sea urchin) and other organic seafood. Sea Truffles made its name providing the sweet little ocean delicacies to places like Crab & Claw and The Dock, but has now branched into its own counter at the complex’s Commons-esque Foodtopia restaurant community.
The decor: This compact kitchen and counter stands out from the others in the food court-like space with its black-and-white striped ceiling and live tanks of crawling lobsters. Nearby, you’ll also find Osteria’s tapas, kebabs from The Kababary and Ogam’s Korean pub grub, which you can also order to have at your table.

The drink: The seafood goes perfectly with sakes like Shikaiou Fuku Tokubetsu-Junmai (B699/300 ml) and Born Junsui Pure Junmai-daiginjo (B799/300 ml) or Italian house wine (B180/glass). More Spanish wines are coming soon.
Why we’d come back: Who can serve fresher seafood than the importers themselves? The prices are very impressive too, especially given Sea Truffles' organic and sustainable credentials. On this evidence, there might yet be hope for Opus and Foodtopia in the battle of Thonglor’s foodie malls.
