BANGKOK BAR

zy*go”sis

The buzz: Petite new bar on left side of Silom Soi 4 between Tapas and Telephone. Appropriately, the mixed crowd zy*go”sis attracts is a bit gayer than the former, but not as flaming as the latter. The name means “a state of being joined in balance and harmony,” which reflects the UK owner’s intent of running an establishment that mixes “bar” and “club” equally.

The décor: The narrow space is deceptively airy and open courtesy of mirrors on both walls. There are four floors to the place plus a nice rooftop for smoking and chilling out. White and bright all around with modular plastic furniture, the design makes it look a bit like a mini-Bed Supperclub. Though quiet at the moment, the third floor is set to be the real party zone with a good sound system and a mini stage for pole dancing.

Music: Mellow jazz and house 7-11pm, progressive house and trance from DJ Dear after 11pm. Volume level on the ground floor is moderated nicely to allow conversation, while things get a bit rowdier upstairs.

The crowd: So far, a thin, mixed crowd. Once the bar finds its feet, they are shooting to make it more of a party space.

Bill: Red Label B1,450, Black Label B1,950, mixers B60, beer B100-120 (Corona B180), cocktails B130-180.

Why you’ll come back: zy*go”sis is a good place to stop after dinner to meet up with friends before plunging into some more serious Silom nightlife. The upstairs club area has great potential for late night raging.
