W XYZ Bar
The buzz: Acclaimed young mixologist Passapong “Bard” Phetpradit serves up one of the largest ranges of molecular cocktails in Bangkok, along with all the classics and some bar bites to soak it all up. Expect innovative concoctions like the Good Morning (B260, gin, apple juice, lime juice, sugar syrup topped with mint transformed into a foam-like texture), which you prepare for by brushing your teeth with a toothbrush coated in apple foam.
The décor: In the clear light of day, this bar would look rather like an extension of the ground-floor lobby with its molded chairs, low seated sofas and long countertop. But by night it’s transformed, through the color-changing LED lights that line the floor and ceiling, into a sensual and sophisticated lounge in which to meet and mingle.
The music: The evening begins with mellow electronica, before familiar-name DJs like Lom Soundstylist, Gift OKB and Ome bring a little more energy to the mix.
The crowd: Everyone from Soi 11 clubbers gearing up for a big one to groups of young office workers gathering for after-work drinks and spillover from Crave, located on the eighth floor, looking to take their night in a sensual direction.
The price: Standard molecular cocktails range from B240-320, including creative signatures like Heaven On Earth (B260, vodka, apple juice, lime wedge, lychee syrup, ginger ale, served smoking). Thursday features an extended menu which includes a foamy take on the standard rum n’ coke and a Caviar Martini that packs a little extra zing.
Why you’ll come back: The location (and vibe) makes it hard to beat for warm-up drinks prior to crashing nearby Bed Supperclub. But come June you may want to stay put for the night with the return of the bar’s free-flow cocktails deal (B499 per person) every Fri-Sat from 9pm-1am. Vasachol Quadri
