This Phrom Phong bar wants you to lighten up.
The buzz: The crew behind The Key Room No. 72 return with a let-down-your-hair, leave-your-jacket-at-home kind of cocktail bar in Phrom Phong.
The decor: Unlike its predecessor in Ari, Serial Laughter isn’t hard to spot. Walk past southern Thai restaurant Marigold, just behind Casa Lapin x26, to find this intimate Art Deco-inspired space. Jade green leather with pastel color splashes and a glittering chandelier hung from tin ceiling tiles recall the Roaring Twenties, while broad windows let in natural light, making the whole place feel a little more accessible than your usual dark drinking den. Look for the clown statuettes—the unofficial muse of the fun-loving bar team—hidden amid the bottles. They’re fitting touches considering “Serial Laughter” is meant to suggest the bar team will slay you with amusing conversation.
The drinks: Just because the bartenders don’t take themselves too seriously doesn’t mean they’re mailing it in with the drinks. Start with the low-ABV Moonchild (B340), a bright and refreshing blend of homemade limoncello, honey and cranberry syrup, egg white and grapefruit bitters. Then move on to the standout Find me Under the Coconut Tree (B340). Combining coconut oil-infused gin and Campari with scorched dried coconut, coconut water and grapefruit bitters, it’s basically a tropical Negroni. The current bar team favorite, however, is the Sunny Honey (B360)—a splash of crème de cassis mellows out the bite of this surprisingly easy-drinking cocktail, which also features El Jimador tequila, ginger ale and a balsamic reduction.
The crowd: Weekday warriors who have outgrown the Thonglor in-crowd.
Why we’d come back: Great drinks at reasonable prices in a neighborhood lacking precisely that. Did we mention the daily buy-two-get-one happy hours (6-9pm)?
