R u u Classic Cocktails & Bar
Cozy vintage furnishings and reading lamps make "going out for a quiet drink" possible.
The buzz: This new Thonglor cocktail bar comes with coffee during the day and a perfect corner for you to read your book, day or night.
The decor: Despite being surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass walls, you won’t feel watched thanks to the quiet location (at the far end of Thonglor Soi 9 towards Sukhumvit Soi 53), cozy vintage furnishings and random bric-a-brac piled around the edges. Forget about candles on the tables—here, they have reading lamps. Take a tattered vintage armchair at one of their cute tables, order yourself a cocktail, then just read away as the world goes by outside.
The drinks: Signature cocktails are inspired by famous artworks throughout history. Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa is reflected in a smooth, bitter-sweet concoction, which mixes cognac, Cointreau, sweet vermouth, egg white, Kahlua and chocolate bitters in a glass sprayed with chocolate absinth, aiming to reflect the soft sadness in her eyes. Vincent van Gogh’s Portrait of Dr. Gachet tells the story of the subject’s jealous admiration of the artist, again mixing sweet and bitter tastes with gin, sweet vermouth, Angostura bitters, Fernet Branca, Maraschino, espresso and egg white. All signature cocktails are B380. The bar also serves a huge list of off-the-grid classics (all priced at B300) like the Sazerac. Keep an eye out in January for their new signature menu, which will be inspired by classic tunes.
The crowd: A quieter bunch of drinkers who want to chill peacefully, or even introverts who just want to read by themselves with a cocktail.
The music: The styles are varied, but share a chill and easy-listening vibe. The volume is kept to background level so people are able to have a conversation.
Why we would come back: This place makes "going out for a quiet drink" possible. After a long day of dealing with people, we would gladly head here to wind down in peace.
