BANGKOK BAR

One Dollar

One Dollar (End of Block G, Royal City Avenue, Rama 9 Rd.) is hidden on the road-less-traveled side of RCA. The pub stands out in size, location and decoration.

Our first impression: It’s just like one of those kinky massage parlors with a terribly fake fountain in the front but don’t let the exterior fool you because inside the spacious hall, things are a lot better with an eclectic lavish European-style mix of velvet-red carpeting, dark blue walls, one-dollar bank note lamps and a smart ladder in the center with a DJ booth at the top. It’s not pretentious—who cares about the snob concept when they offer a more realistic (cheap) but good quality vibe. You can even score some Saeng Som and Saeng Tip (B280), a favorite for many hard-core boozers.

Shake your booty and move your body along to their awesome live bands, especially on Thursday with Tar, the ex-member of Mr. Team, on vocals. The intervals are hosted by mixing DJs with a variety of house, hip-hop, retro or whatever you request music. Every Wednesday night, the pub has a chic weekly party with the one-dollar concept in mind. Just get your hands on a one-dollar bank note and drink free all night.

Food here is just as appealing as the interior. The menu offers miscellaneous yummy dishes with friendly prices. There’s the best som tum kormuu (B120), which we recommend to take home and eat with hot khaoniao. With confirmation from the owner, every kind of spaghetti is delicious (B90). Don’t be too obsessed with the food, for long nights like this, you should try their huge signature cocktail, Too Pla (B300). Even the best boozers can get drunk from just one, so be careful!
