BANGKOK BAR

Mojjo

This Cuban-themed bar comes with 32nd-floor views.

The buzz: Bangkok's newest Cuban-themed bar sits on the 32nd floor of the SkyView Hotel Bangkok offering rum-heavy drinks amid almost-360-degree views over Benjasiri Park and downtown.

The decor: Unlike so many uber-modern sky bars, this one greets you with mid-century Cuban furnishings and green Havana hues. Intricate tile-work and floor patterns transport you, mojito in hand, right back to the 1950s. Tucked beside the bar, you'll also find the more gentlemen’s club vibes of cigar specialist Character (also at Anantara Siam).

The drinks: The rum- and whiskey-centric cocktails don’t hit any great heights, but with prices never topping B400 we’re not complaining. The Ruby (B370) is an easy-to-drink mix of Belvedere vodka, elder flower syrup, strawberry puree and cranberry juice that’s a good place to start before moving onto the smokier flavors of the Sweet Smoke (B380): Ardberg whiskey with caramel syrup, blueberry syrup, egg white, lime juice and bitters. El Bandito (B390) is a whiskey sour alternative that instead uses Ron Zacapa 23-year-old rum as a base, mixing it with lime juice, egg white, bitters, syrup and the added twist of sour cherry.

The food: Tapas-style bites com  priced at B175-450, with one highlight being the fiery chicken wings, glazed with a honey-chili sauce and served with blue cheese dressing (B275), resulting in a dish that's sweeter and less spicy than your usual buffalo wings. Another must-try is the Spanish pork meatballs in spicy tomato sauce served with crispy garlic baguette (B250).

The crowd: Nicely dressed hotel guests and equally well-attired office workers seeking out after-work drinks.

Why we would come back: The excellent views are only enhanced by serviceable drinks that won’t burn a hole in your pocket.
