Ma-Rum-Ba
Go for the rum, stay for the home-style vibe.
The buzz: Right next to Phra Khanong's W District night market, this fun-sized shop-house bar dishes out the Thai-made Three Monkeys rum within shouting distance of the neighborhood's best galleries—Goja and HOF.
The decor: The first thing you notice is the impressive shelf of alcohol dominating an entire wall of the tiny space. Inside the bar there are some comfy couches with a book-shelf behind, while out front you've got some tables for smoking—think compact, makeshift, relaxing and intimate.
The music: Deep house, Berlin house or techno is usually on the playlist, but you might also find some weirder entertainment happening, like 1920s Mickey Mouse cartoons playing in the background.
The drinks: Here's what makes this gem of a hidden bar so special. Its owners are the same people who make Three Monkeys rum, a 40-percent Thai rum which we reckon is the smoothest local spirit we've tasted. Their signature King Kong mojito (B790) comes in a giant glass big enough to share between three. If you're not that much of a hardcore drinker, you can get a regular mojito at B200—also mixed with their Three Monkeys rum. Alternatively, try the Long Island Iced Tea (B240), or just look out for your favorite bottleon their impressive shelf of alcohol.
Why you should care: It’s one of those perfect after-dinner, neighborhood drinking spots—head there to start a night of bar hopping or just chill with frinds over that giant mojito. Choltanutkun Tun-atiruj
