BANGKOK BAR

Le Cafe des StagiairesBK Distribution

This casual neighborhood bar is named after the French phrase for a place where young interns drink.

The buzz: The happening area of Sathorn Soi 10-12 recently welcomed this casual neighborhood bar named after the French phrase for a place where young interns drink. The Bangkok debut follows three other branches in Shanghai, and sits in a colorful shop-house with an unpretentious atmosphere, staying open for lunch and dinner until you’re ready to dance.

The decor: The three-story shophouse packs a loft-like, vintage vibe. The wooden part of the exterior has been colorfully repainted, while most of the inside is bare red bricks lined with bric-a-brac like photographs from renowned documentary photographer Martin Parr to retro beer signs. The furniture sticks to a '70s theme with local market finds that the owners have refreshed themselves, including vintage phones in every corner that you can actually use to order drinks (just press 601).

The music: The owners’ collection of '70s-'80s jazz and funk to upbeat French house late at night.

The crowd: Sathorn and Silom's uniformed office workers and residents at the nearby The Address and Life at Sathorn condos.

The food and drinks: As owners are from different backgrounds, the dishes stick to no particular culinary theme, ranging from French anchovies (B150), foie gras (B540/80g) and croquet truffle (parma ham, brie and tartufata sandwiches, B290) to Thai-style chicken satay (B120). To drink, try classics like Moscow mule (B260), caipirinha (B260) and negroni (B290), as well as the signature “French pour” Ricard (B100). Import beers include bottles like Delirium (B270) and Westmalle (B280-310), as well as La Chouffe (B380/pint) on tap--a real rare find. Catch their daily happy hour from 4-8pm for special prices on Ricard (B100), La Chouffe (B210), cocktails (from B160),  wines (from B130) and Leo (B80). They do lunch and brunch, too. Lunch is served from 11:30am-3pm at B310 for two courses (sandwich/pasta/salad paired with starter or dessert) and B390 for three courses (starter, sandwich/pasta/salad and desserts). Brunch is available on Sat-Sun from 11:30am-3pm, offering French, American and Swiss-style breakfast options.
