Hidden Agenda
The buzz: The trend of renovating old houses with lawns into homey bars was on the down and out for a while, but with Hidden Agenda, it makes a comeback, reminding us of a cross between old favorites Hidden Stuff and Al Majlis.
The décor: The space has three seating areas: the huge garden filled with BBQ party-esque furniture; the main room inside the house with vanilla leather sofa sets, blue walls and vintage knick knacks; and finally the dining room that has proper tables for those who don’t dig eating on a couch.
The music: Alas the focus is mostly on jazz, so you feel like you’re in an elevator, or on bossa nova—and don’t get us started on that. Still, they do play some pop hits and bring in live bands covering inter and Thai hits Wed-Fri-Sat, 8-10pm.
The crowd: As of now, many of the owner’s friends, but that is to be expected. There’s also a small contingent of Thong Lor-Ekkamai after-workers.
The price: Cocktails B140-220. They don’t do classic cocktails as all are originals created by the owner. Try the hidden passion (vodka and passion fruit). Whisky B1,000-1,500 (by the bottle). Beer B160-390, including some unusual Belgians like Waterloo 8 Double Dark. Wine B730-7,700 (by the bottle).
Why you’ll come back: It’s right in Thong Lor, and there’s parking, which is more than we can say for a lot of other places in the area. Plus, the drinks list offers some nice choices for those pre-gaming before hitting the clubs. Vasachol Quadri
