Clouds Across The Moon
Space out at this retro-chic bar.
The buzz: Taking over a corner shop-house of a residential soi, Clouds Across The Moon (named after a 1985 song by The Rah Band) ups Phra Khanong’s hipster-chic credentials with its retro yet space-age vibe.
The decor: Head through the Art Deco-style panel doors into a pool of UV lighting, dotted with random bric-a-brac (anatomical models, electric guitars, a glowing tomato, lava lamps), a projector showing everything from old cartoons to starlit skies, and a large glowing moon fixture—ideal for getting that howling wolf silhouette shot. Hidden on the second floor is Rocket Tattoo Studio, which is advance-booking only, meaning no drunken, spur-of-the-moment ink.
The drinks: Visit during happy hours (5-9pm daily) for two-for-one on easy-drinking cocktails like Moonflowers (vodka, triple sec, elderflower, lemon and lime juice, B280) or the Clouds Across the Moon (B280), which mixes vodka, peach schnapps and sweet vermouth, smoked with hickory wood. More straightforward is A Smooth Sake (B140), a shot of sake served with lemon with plum powder on top. Beers start at B120 for a glass of Asahi.
The music: Every Friday and Saturday from 9pm-1am, live DJs spin everything from ‘90s pop to indie and disco.
The crowd: Young, hip Thai professionals mostly from around the neighborhood.
Why we’d come back: When you tire of Sukhumvit’s try-hard crowds, head here for an icy cold beer in quirky surroundings.
