Brotzeit German Bier Bar and Restaurant
The buzz: Originating in Singapore before branching out to 14 other locations around Southeast Asia, Brotzeit German Bier Bar and Restaurant has now landed in Bangkok, claiming a prime bit of real estate on the corner of Thonglor Soi 10. Meaty German classics, Paulaner draught beer and sport-friendly big screens make it a top spot to catch the weekend match—or drink away the off-season.
The décor: Brotzeit benefits from a top location on the corner of bustling Thonglor Soi 10. As such, it boasts an L-shaped outdoor terrace, which is filled with big wooden benches, long tables and a big screen. Inside is more about serious dining, while the walls are covered with cute black and white illustrated wallpaper designed by a German street artist. Finally, the long bar down one side reminds you why you’re really there.
The music: The bar uses the same house music mixtape from the original branch, which we’ve been told is all about cementing a “signature style.”
The crowd: A mix of Thai and farang Thonglor types, slightly older in age than the HOBS crowd.
The price: Paulaner is the only draught beer option but comes in four different drops: Original Muncher, Hafe Weissbier, Dunkel Hafe Weissbier and Dunkel Original Muncher at B150 per 0.3liter and B250 per 0.5liter. The food menu leans heavily on Bavarian cuisine. The classic weisswurst (traditional Bavarian pork and veal sausages served with pretzels, B750) comes highly recommended, as do the tafelspitz (boiled beef with apple horseradish sauce, B440) and leg ham with emmentaler cheese (B280).
Why you’ll come back: The prime location makes it easy to get to, while the larger space mean it’s not too packed for a breezy beer or three. The Bavarian cuisine is the perfect accompaniment for a pint of Paulaner—make sure you swing by from noon-8pm for their happy hours when draft beers start from just B130. Vasachol Quadri
