BANGKOK BAR

Bottles of Beer

This Bangkok bar has more craft beers than you could ever imagine.

The buzz: This friendly bottle shop-cum-bar has one of the best craft beer selections in Bangkok, at some of the best prices. The Singaporean owner wanted to create a place where people can feel comfortable just rocking up, pulling a few bottles from the fridge and kicking back. Adding to the community vibe, right outside you'll find street vendors whipping up a variety of Thai and Malaysian street food.

The decor: The ground-floor of this small shop-house is lined with shelves and fridges showing off the bottled goods. A long, slender table sits in the middle of the room to encourage beer-fueled socializing. Upstairs introduces separate tables but you'll still be sitting in very close quarters. Out front sit two food stalls, also belonging to the bar, which specialize in rotisserie chicken and duck burgers.

The drinks: The beers come from all corners of the globe, from Japan's Hitachino to rarer finds like California's Heretic and Australia's Holgate, to name just a few. There are some gluten-free options and ciders, too. The best part? If you buy six bottles you get wholesale prices, which most often sit at B150-200—that's a steal compared to most bars in town.

The crowd: Neighbors gathering for a few after-work beers and chit-chat, and craft beer gurus with an eye for a bargain.

The food: The juicy rotisserie chickens (B220 for whole and B130 for half with free sticky rice) come in a honey marinade the owners developed themselves, grilled over charcoal for an hour and a half. The duck burgers (B220) feature duck leg confit, onion marmalade, crispy duck skin and truffle mayo. There are more stalls on the way, we're told, including some experimental pizza.

Why you should care: With an unbeatable beer selection, wholesale prices and tasty bar food in a communal atmosphere, Bottles of Beer ticks boxes for both craft beer geeks and entry-level drinkers. Choltanutkun Tun-atiruj
