Poj Arnon is back. After a couple of Hor Teaw Tak sequels, the director returns to his very first gay comedy, 2003’s hugely successful Plon Na Ya. This second episode sees the same gang return, still led by Jaturong Mok Jok but this time around they team up with Tao Somchai.
The story starts with Jae Prik (Jaturong Mok-Jok) and Jae Joy (Kerk Chiller) finally undergoing their transgender surgery. Tony (Koh Tee), the zoo keeper they adopted after the death of Yaya is on his way to join them when he gets involved in a fight with some gangsters Mai (Tao Somchai) and Tung (Tack Paranyu) on a bus that leads to Mai’s brother being shot. The gangsters end up at the same hospital as Prik and Joy, but when they can’t pay for the hospital bill, another member of the gangster’s gang, Nadej, robs a gold shop. When the police turn up both gangs escape except Nadej, who gets kidnapped by another set of gangsters, leading Mai to ask Jae Prik for help in freeing his friend.
A crazy story line, flamboyant gay characters, cabaret costumes, dirty jokes, and an18+ x-rated nude scene are once again the base components for this Poj Arnon production. At least there is a little bit more of a story than in his Hor Teaw Tak sequel but that’s really not saying very much.
After a host of serious gay movies of late, this is simple silly, cartoonish escapism. It’s not as good as the original due to a bigger focus on the gags, but as long as you accept that this is what you are going to get, then you’ll be fine. If you expect anything more high brow than jokes using rude words and sexual references, well you’re in for a major disappointment.
