Radiation: Art and Queer Ideas from Bangkok and Manila

  • Time: 13/02/14 01:00AM - 05/04/14 11:00AM
  • Place: Bangkok
  • Near:

Stemming from an inititiative from the Department of Avant-Garde Cliches (DAGC, Manila), an artist-led curatorial collective and gallery, this visual arts exhibition looks to explore the term "queer" in different social contexts through the works of 25 artists from Manila and Bangkok.

Among them is veteran Thai photographer Tada Hengsapkul, whose photographs of a green-painted nudist in the woods nods towards the Thai slang for homosexual, mai pa deaw gun (translated as "tree of the same forest").

Maitree Siriboon, meanwhile, showcases a photo of a rainbow-colored buffalo, an idea which evolved from his previous series Buffalo's Heart.

Other artists involved include the likes of Dennis Balk, Jon Cuyson, Partick Cruz and the party collective Trasher Bangkok.

Radiation: Art and Queer Ideas from Bangkok and Manila is curated by Brian Curtin, who will also give a talk on Feb 26, from 2-4pm at The Art Center, Chulalongkorn University. For more information, visit the Facebook event page.
