Dear Mr. KIA, I have been dating my girlfriend for almost two years and next week is going to be our official anniversary. I forgot this important date last year and she was pretty mad, so I’d like to make it really special this time. I hear that girls currently have this thing for cutesy scrapbooks. While it’s pretty embarrassing, I reckon she would go absolutely crazy happy if I made her one. Do you know any good places where I can get those scrapbook supplies under one roof? And please, don’t tell anyone I’m asking this. Shy Guy
Dear SG: Hey there’s no need to get all defensive. In my book there’s nothing more macho than making a scrapbook, well maybe flower arranging? Seriously, I’ll give you a break for being so romantic, sweet pea. Just make sure that those cute little heart and butterfly stickers don’t replace soccer and beer as your favorite hobbies. Here I have listed some of the scrapbook supplies available in town.
Scrap it! (G/F, The 49 Terrace, Sukhumvit Soi49, 02-258-1585, www.scrapitscrapit.com. Mon-Fri 10am-7pm, Sat-Sun 11am-6pm, or 1/F, K Village, Sukhumvit Soi 26) offers a selection of step-by-step kits which cover different themes from sporty to granny. Some products come in bag sets but there are also cute-pattern papers, stamps, stickers, ribbons, and other apparels sold separately. If you’re too lazy to do the work, just get one of their beautifully wrapped scrapbook kits (B695-B1,795).
If you don’t feel like going into the city, visit the cute Scrap@Love (1/F, Major Avenue Ratchayothin, Ratchayothin Rd., 089-478-7855. www.scrapatlove.com. Open Daily 11am-9.30pm) in Ratchayothin. They offer scrapbook supplies from cute papers, 3D stickers, cartoon stamps, to paper punchers from Martha Stewart (B690). Although there is no workshop space for customers, you can pay for the supplies and let the staff finish the piece for you (price starts around B300).
GOOSE (405, 4/F, Siam Discovery, Rama 1 Rd., 080-201-9421. www.goose-store.com) sells everything scrapbook related with a special emphasis on tools like embossing paper punchers as well as the more basic stuff like paper. Besides all the technical equipment that can be found here, GOOSE offers scrapbook workshops which last two-hours and cost between B1,100 to B1,750. Call in advance to reserve a seat for the workshops.
