Big Tiger Studio
This record store is also Ladphrao's coolest bar.
Ladphrao is cool. Finally. From Greasy Cafe’s organic shop and the cute Freeze Frozen Yogurt to Where Do We Go craft beer bar and now this new vinyl store, Big Tiger Studio.
Record collector Suchon Boonkong runs the place, following up his previous stall at Chatuchak weekend market with a bigger, cozier space.
In a three-story townhouse originally meant to be his home, the record store sits on the second floor while an additional space has been turned into a bar to keep his customers and DJ friends coming back to dig out new stuff.
The selection largely focuses on old Thai molam and look thung with names like Waipoj Petchsupan and Suraphol Sombatcharoen through to the current Zudrangma’s Paradise Bangkok.
But dig further and you'll also find modern luk krung and string music from The Impossible and The Exotic, plus rare Northern folk from Charan Manopetch and even the first album from Thongchai McIntyre. Prices for 7-inch records start from B150, but hard-to-find albums can fetch up to B3,500.
