BANGKOK VENUE
Niche Nation
The buzz: Thonglor institution Niche Nation is known as Bangkok’s go-to shop for specialized premium eyewear from a range of influential designers. It’s now opened its second store at Central Embassy and along with a new optical collection includes collaborations between fashion heavyweights MYKITA and Maison Martin Margiela.
The décor: The new store in Central Embassy is clean and simple, as you’d expect. The showcases are made with light-toned wood, in keeping with the white paint and glass-dominated interior.
The products and prices: Niche Nation houses more than 10 top-line eyewear brands. For a discreet look, there’s Oliver Peoples, handcrafted specs with no discernible logo, and Dita, an American eyewear brand that’s handmade in Japan with luxurious materials like titanium and 18K gold. Other big names include Native Sons, Max Pitton, Moscot and the sporty Mylon. The spotlight for now, though, goes to the collaboration between Germany’s MYKITA and French fashion house Maison Martin Margiela. The collection boasts two unisex models: Essential (B25,000), stainless steel frames coming in six styles and four colorways, and Dual (B25,000), two pairs of acetate frames which are born as one and then deconstructed into two with a selection of four styles and five colorways.
