Six Senses Spa
The buzz: Six Senses is a global hotel chain famous for its focus on healthy living, be it the organic vegetables grown on its properties or its renowned spas. The brand has finally established a foothold here in Bangkok with a swanky new gym and spa on the 30th floor of Two Pacific Place. That’s one floor above the Pacific City Club (the two are connected by a palatial staircase) and the plan is for Six Senses to bring its deluxe-green touch to that space, too.
The décor: Plenty of wood, for that natural connection, but more importantly, absolutely stunning views of downtown Bangkok. You’ll get to enjoy the vista from the gym, and also from a little rec room where you can chill out after your massage, sip some ginger tea and read a magazine.
The gym: Of course, you’ve got your cardio machines and free weights. But this gym is also up to speed on all the latest trends. The machines use free motion cables, allowing for a greater range of movements and better targeting of core muscles on top of the primary muscle. They’ve also got a TRX straps system, which is all about targeting your core muscles and using your body weight. And we spotted a few kettlebells (basically a cannonball with a handle), in case you’re bored with the plain old dumbbells.
The spa: Six Senses’ serious spa cred comes into play the second you select your treatment. Expect to be asked a lot of questions about your lifestyle: drinking habits, sports played, etc. But while filling in these kinds of forms can be a bit of a gimmick for some spas, we were impressed with how the spa director really used our answers to tailor what the therapist would focus on. You’ll need that help and direction, given that this is an exhaustive spa menu that covers both aesthetic treatments (scrubs, facials, etc.) and therapeutic ones targeting body pains.
The damage: Personal training at the gym three times a week is B38,000 for three months. (If you just want to be a gym member, you have to get a membership at the Pacific City Club downstairs.) As for treatments, prices start from B1,400 for 30 min massages such as foot acupressure or back, neck and shoulder, making them ideal for a spot of me-time at lunch. Facials are B2,700/3,500 (1hr/1.5hr) with standard products and around B4,000 if making use of serums from Biologique Recherche. Scrubs B1,900/2,400 (45min/75min), deep tissue B3,500 (1.5hr). Beauty treatments (waxing, manicure, pedicure, etc.) range from B800-2,400. Gregoire Glachant
