Sol Space

One venue we’ve been excited to see pop up on our Facebook feed a lot of late is the gallery-cum-live venue SOL Space. Opened a few years ago, the intimate space (entry is typically limited to 150 tickets) disappeared from our radars for a while, but has been delivering top-notch international entertainment with any arty bent throughout 2013: from experimental Berlin-based electro musician Kangding Ray in January and noir-pop auteur Dirty Beaches in February to Japanese noise-rock provocateurs Melt-Banana earlier this month. Co-founder Koichi Shimuzu calls SOL Space a “meet-and-exchange place for creative ideas,” and it’s hard to argue when you see the elaborate stage sets and the diversity of acts, which he credits to the growing number of independent-minded promoters around town.
