Gossip Gallery

The concept: The revamped Gossip Gallery relocates to Silom Galleria’s multifaceted art space. Working in tandem with Teo+Namfah Gallery, it will showcase contemporary pieces from local and international artists. Solo artist exhibitions rotate every second month, often with public workshops as a prelude, while every other month features a compilation of previous artists’ works. While the gallery at present is mostly a mix of paintings, it does also feature the occasional sculptures.

The décor: After walking through the polished corridors of the Galleria, it is a refreshing change to enter a space consisting of white-washed walls and unrefined concrete floors. While these features are the usual suspects in contemporary galleries, they do provide an un-obtrusive backdrop to the artworks, and provide a breather from the busy mall. Spotlights on the exposed beams add rawness to the minimal ambience and the inclusion of a large off-center white column breaks up the space for smaller pieces to be featured around it.

The crowd: A mix of Thai and foreign artists and art-lovers.
In the present: Local award-winning artist Naret Yamaharn, presents a series of oil paintings focusing on the colors and reflection of living things as they as they move through light and shadow (Apr 2-May 9).

In the future: Keep your eye’s peeled for the gallery’s second year anniversary, around June.
