BANGKOK ART_GALLERY

Club Arts & Gallery by the River

The concept: Patravadi Theater’s long-serving director Anurak Praeroj transforms the riverside restaurant Studio 9 into a gallery and café. The gallery promises to feature works of local contemporary artists whereas the café, called Mangkood, will serve rare local dishes and also double as a platform for film screenings and performances supervised by Thongchai “Boy” Hannarong, director of the Komonlagoon Dance Troupe.

The décor: Breathe easy, what we love about Studio 9 is still intact: the hangar-like space, high ceilings and riverside spot. The gallery takes half of the space with one black wall, obligatory benches, cement floor and rows of suspended lighting. The other half features a raised wooden floor and sets of matching tables. Make sure to book in advance if you want that coveted spot where you can peek down at the river.

The crowd: Artistes and the post-show crowd from the adjacent Patravadi Theater.

The present: Once Upon a Time, an art exhibition by children book illustrator and author Kanokwan Lekdamrongsak (until Mar 27).

The future: TBA.
