Dot Art + Suite

The concept: The father and son behind the longstanding Cherubin coffee and cake shop have rekindled their shared love for design and architecture by reimaging their building next door (which used to be an office) as a space for art—featuring pieces from their personal collection and by guest artists—and a two-room boutique hotel.

The décor: They have repainted the whole interior white to let their personal collection of wood carvings, ceramics, prints and furniture really speak for itself. The two-room hotel occupying the second and third floors is furnished with wood and leather furniture, in keeping with the owners’ showcase downstairs. (Bookings can be made through airbnb.com with prices starting from B3,000 per night including breakfast). In fact, most of the furniture here is newly designed and made by the owners using their own collected wood.

In the future: They’re planning something for January, 2014, but details are quite sketchy at the moment. However, we’re excited as the two owners have told us they’re into the idea of putting on joint art exhibitions and jazz jam sessions.

Now: Personal wood carving collection.
