1. The egg parmesan at Marcel (B240)

We can’t go past this appetizer at the new French bar-slash-restaurant. The runny egg yolk is complemented by ooey-gooey parmesan cheese with aromatic bell pepper cream and sauteed mushroom. Nothing can stop us from wiping the bowl clean with their complimentary baguette—good thing the bread’s free-flow.

2. The dry-aged beef steak at Kom Ba Wa (B1,750)

The wonderfully tender steak is made from 60-day aged Tajima wagyu. The beef itself is packed with flavor, but it’s the potent ponzu jelly that takes the dish to another level and makes it worth the price tag.

3. The engawa foie gras magma at Sushi Mori (B580)

This new sushi spot is drawing in the office crowds for its simple yet eye-catching decor and not-too-extravagantly-priced sets. Our pick is the smoky torched halibut fin topped with salmon roe, pickled wasabi and rich, flavorful foie gras sauce on sushi rice.

4. The chrysanthemum tofu in almond syrup at M Krub (only available in sets, B2,800-8,000 for lunch, B8,000-12,000 for dinner)

The new opening from the Chef Man group serves up a modernized take on Chinese cuisine. One dish we love is the delectable chrysanthemum tofu in almond syrup, in which the chef showcases his knife skills by finely cutting the tofu into hair-like strips. Like nothing else we've seen—or tasted—in town.

5. The truffle and iberico pork grilled cheese at Revolucion Cocktail (B250)

A grilled cheese on steroids—bursting with flavor, intensely moreish and, dare we say it, better than any of the cocktails we’ve tried here.

6. The Tomahawk at Lady Brett (B1,500/800g)

We think Lady Brett is on to a winner with its concise barbecue menu. And since the closure of Opposite, we bet you won’t find a better priced tomahawk in town (well, unless you can snag a table at Arno’s). Here, the 800g slab of meat hints at charcoal smoke rather than hitting you with it, with a well-charred exterior giving way to a red center that’s delicious thanks to the rare flavor of the meat alone.

7. The breakfast burrito wrap at Luka (B170)

This cafe situated in the new Sathorn branch of the Casa Pagoda furniture shop rolls out a small, breakfast-heavy menu that's big on character yet—shock, horror—surprisingly well-priced. The headliner is this wrap, which comprises quinoa, scrambled egg, cheese, sausage, tomato salsa, avocado and their own "Thai chipotle" salsa—aromatic and somehow lighter than such a delicious breakfast should be.

8. The Scarlet Toast at Another Cup (B280)

This clean-looking hipster cafe does a fairly familiar line of breakfast dishes, toasts, salads, pastas, soups and sandwiches. We’re more taken with the sweet side of things, though, particularly this refreshing combo of cottage cheese with lemon zest spread on dark rye bread, topped with strawberries, raspberries, cherries, wild honey and pistachio.

9. The crostini with French anchovies at Cafe Le Stagiaires (B150)

This popular expat haunt’s casual vibe continues onto its menu, which jumps between different cuisines but sticks to time-trusted drinking food. Our pick is the simple but well-executed crostini, which bursts with freshness, and is topped off with super-flavorful anchovy.

10. Hunting at The Dining Room (B790)

At the House on Sathorn’s flagship restaurant, Turkish chef Fatih Tutak serves what he calls New Asian Cuisine, drawing on his well-traveled background to create dishes that, he says, narrate stories. The results keep things fun, though in a more dressed-up way than other W outlets. Our pick is Hunting (B790), said to be symbolic of a European hunting day, which sees duck breast lying on splashes of red pomegranate sauce and burnt onion powder as gunpowder.

11. The new brunch at The Kitchen Table (B650)

OK, it’s not a dish. But W Hotel’s new Lazy Sundays brunch makes for a pretty impressic weekend spread: all-you-can-eat home-style dishes selected from an a la carte menu. Beyond the eggs Benedict with slow-cooked pork belly on sourdough, we’ll vouch for the deep-fried buttered chicken with house-made donuts. Available every Sunday from noon-3pm till Dec 27.
