MOO CHA MUANG

The dish: The sour garcinia cowa leaf makes this Eastern Thai specialty different from any other curries you may have tasted. Supanniga’s version carries a generous amount of well-cooked leaves and tender braised pork.

Why it’s healthy: Garcinia cowa leaf has antiinflammatory and anti-bacterial qualities that can help prevent the risk of cancer.

Get it at: The new Supanniga on Sathorn Soi 10, whose edgy decor blends symbolic references to Isaan's silk-weaving traditions and industrial touches like corrugated steel.

TAM KAOPOD (CORN SOMTAM)

The dish: This twist on the classic Isaan staple, somtam, sees sweet corn used instead of raw papaya, resulting in mellower flavors and a satisfying crunch.

Why it’s healthy: Sweet corn is rich in antioxidants like beta-carotene and lutein, which are especially good for your eyes. Corn also contains certain B vitamins and vitamin C, as well as magnesium and potassium. Som tam is also a great salad alternative with no creamy dressing—just ask your server to go light on the sugar!

Get it at: Thonglor’s latest somtam spot, Tam Thonglor, on the second floor of The Taste community mall.

GAENG LIANG GOONG SOD

The dish: Unlike other creamy curries, this dish is packed with veggies and doesn’t have any coconut milk. The soup still has plenty of body however, sitting somewhere between clear and creamy, and holds a unique peppery, aromatic flavor.

Why it’s healthy: Just some of the goodies included in this dish are angled loofah, pumpkin, baby corn, lemon basil and ivy gourd—all packed with vitamins and fibers. Studies have also shown the dish helps prevent inflammation.

MIANG PLA TOO

The dish: Like other miang (basically veggie wraps), this dish comes with Thai mackerel as its star, leafy veggies like lettuce or cabbage, and other accompaniments like shallots, peanuts, fresh chili pepper and some rice noodles. The highlight, though, is the well-balanced complex sauce

Why it’s healthy: First, mackerel packs plenty of protein and minerals like omega 3 that help decrease the risk of heart disease. The fresh, raw veg are also packed full of fiber and vitamins.

Get it at: Nai Lert Park Heritage House’s Thai restaurant Ma Maison, located amid the antiquated home’s beautiful garden.
