Hair of the Dog

Joining the community of bars and restaurants at Mahatun Plaza Arcade, next to La Monita and Whisgars, Hair of the Dog is the latest serious beer bar in town, run by a former tap master at Mikkeller Bangkok Pete Spalino and friends Jon Andresen and Mike Macdonald. Here, the tiny bare concrete room provides an intimate drinking hole, while surgical lighting above the bar and hospital beds doubling as tables give off a haunted hospital vibe. There are 13 beers on tap, supplied by all the familiar faces (Beervana, Brewdog and Hopsession), which they say will rotate regularly.

Whiteline Gallery and Bar

Finally, somewhere for live music and arty parties on Silom. This renovated six-story shop-house on the corner of Silom Soi 8 is the brainchild of filmmaker Oliver Wolfson. For now, the main action takes place on the ground floor, a grungy art space that’s more than a little reminiscent of Charoenkrung’s Soy Sauce Factory, from the paintings on the white-washed wall to the film projections and colorful lighting. The drinks keep things simple with beers: Leo starts from B80/can, Beerlao B150, Deschutes IPA at B250, with homebrew soon to come on tap. The bar is currently busy hosting esoteric events from Fri-Sun, including July 25's gig Smoke, featuring exciting synth-pop act Naked Astronaught and more. In the future, the whole building will be turned into an entertainment hub, combining bar, restaurant, club and gallery.

Brew Beer & Ciders Sukhumvit Soi 11

After launching The Beer Cap on RCA last year, beer enthusiast and entrepreneur Chis Foo has returned to his blockbuster brand, Brew Beer & Ciders, opening a new branch on the Soi 11 party strip. The new venue takes over a two-story building opposite Marshmallow and sells some 300 imported bottles from familiar importers. On tap, there are currently 10 brews from the likes of Beervana, Leffe, Magners, Paulaner, Bacchus, Stella Artois, Bombardier, Limburgse Witte, Guinness and Brewdog (Punk IPA). Prices start from B240-260/pint.

Craft Silom and Belle’s Room

Whisgars Silom branch has welcomed a couple new addition. Firstly, the supposed “pop-up” beer spot Craft (Sukhumvit Soi 23) has followed across town. Craft Silom offers some 20 craft beers on tap with names including Rogue Dead Guy Ale (B220/320 per half-pint/pint), Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA (B250/350) and Two Tales Black Ale Draught (B310-410). Secondly, Belle’s Room has opened inside the same venue. Hidden behind a wall, this speakeasy-inspired lounge only has a small list of cocktails, but do ask the bartender to tailor one to your mood.

Revolucion Cocktail Bar

There’s a nightlife revolution going on down in Sathorn. Hot on the heels of the French bistro/bar Marcel comes this colorful Latin-American-themed cocktail bar. With branches in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Xiemen, the new opening brings a touch of Suk 11-style nightlife to the area. The imported bartenders specialize in both classic cocktails like mojito and Moscow Mule, and reinvented signatures like the Aged Negroni (gin, Martini Rosso, Campari, fresh strawberry, blueberry, orange, passion fruit and soda, B390). Tapas dishes come from French chef Julien Lavigne, formerly of D’Sens and Oskar bar (do order the the truffle and iberico pork grilled cheese).

Club Diana

This famous dance club from Tokyo’s nightlife central, Ginza, has landed in Thonglor. Located on the third floor of the new building on the corner of Thonglor Soi 10, the club brings in Japanese DJs from original branch, who are also joined by local DJs. There’s also an outdoor rooftop garden for pre-dancing drinks.
