Your complete guide to Bangkok's Galleries' Night this Saturday
As the city's contemporary art night of nights returns this July 5, it's time to plan your gallery-hopping.

Held as the finale of the annual Franco-Thai Cultural Festival La Fete, the contemporary art night will see galleries across Bangkok open until late, offering pop-up collaborations and art projects. Jul 5, from 7pm-midnight. Full list and details here.
Heat Wave
Six Thai artists showcase works inspired by the notion of “heat,” whether political, religious, cultural or physical.

Chant for Female Corpse
From 7:30pm until midnight near the garden pools at the Jim Thompson House Museum will be a video installation by internationally renowned Thai contemporary artist Araya Rasdjarmreansook. In the Chant for Female Corpse video, produced in 2001 and displayed on three screen panels, Araya prays and pours water over a female corpse to a soundtrack of chanting voices.
Hiraeth
Taiwanese-born photographer Nana Chen displays her tranquil photo essay of Chung King Mansions, the crowded neighborhood in Hong Kong, to examine the thin line between privacy and publicity in what we call home.
Her
Over 50 paintings, drawings, and mini sculptures by Tanasan Kanakasem that signify solitude and human’s yearning to end their loneliness through various female animal characters, from black bunnies to King Kong. Opening reception at 7pm, with The Keylookz performing live.

Men in White
French photojournalist Christophe Loviny, the founder of the Angkor Photography Festival, documents the life of 34 young Catholic monks inside Saint Marie de Lagrasse Abbey after its restoration in 2004. Opening reception from 7pm.

I Love You Too
At Le Méridien Bangkok will be the opening night for Ugo Li's exhibition I Love You Too, the title of which stems from his state of mind while choosing what and what not to include in his work series. Art tour on opening reception.
Octopoda
The debut exhibition by Piyanuch Ahmeda Pungput, aka Mona, features mixed media and watercolor illustrations, under the concept of the giant octopus as protector. On Galleries' Night, Mona will be doing live portraits for 10 lucky guests, while DJ Somarange will spin 50s and 60s tunes.

Messages
The relocated Koi Art introduces its new home with a group exhibition featuring paintings by four young Thai artists, Preecha Raksorn, Pannavit Pipat Jirachod, Prab Panitroangkrai and Pachara Piyasongsoot. Opening reception from 6pm.

Paitoon Jumee
On this special night, the new Artha Gallery welcomes Paitoon Jumee (8-10pm) to give a talk on inspiration and techniques before street artist Cece Nobre paints live from 9pm.

The Moonshine Hunter
The solo exhibition by Montri Toemsombat displays his new work created during his time at the Thaillywood Artist Residence, in
which he uses bright-colored folk fabrics from Kanchanaburi as the canvas, painting with rubber, rice and crushed vegetables. Curated by Myrtille Tibayrenc. Opening reception at 7pm.

Mixology
Numthong Gallery hosts the first group show by Thaillywood Artist Residency, selecting works by its 10 former resident artists between 2012-2014, including Ole Ukena, Laurent Pernot, Sudaporn Teja and Anthony Gripon, covering various media and subjects. From 7pm.

Alexis Dubois
The first solo show in Bangkok by the French artist, whose background is in graffiti, displays his poignant paintings of humans and fantastical creatures inspired by psychology and Buddhism. There'll be a pop-up Sea Truffles kiosk by Dan Koh who will be shucking oysters, paired up with Prosecco and white wine.

The writer, cartoonist, designer and founder of Dudesweet, Pongsuang “Note” Kunprasop, perhaps the most influential figure in Bangkok’s indie scene, exhibits for the first time his comic paintings, channeling his life experiences, poignant moments and music that influences him into imaginary vinyl record covers. DJ Jorge Carlos Smith spins Latino.

Prawit Lumjalurn explores the power of materialism through an oil on canvas series of children whose skin is aluminum foil.

Curator Brian Curtin highlights the work methods of two artists: Belgium’s Peggy Wauters, who creates objects and collages derived from mythological symbolism, and Nir Segal from Israel, who explores the concept of the overlooked.
100 Tonson
Chumpol Kamwanna takes on the heady topic of powerplay and revolution in Thai politics, with crude comical portraits of key figures voicing concerns about the road ahead for the country.

The night at Sofitel So Bangkok features the work by tw artists: Sejal Surenda Sood, who will be performing as part of her Reflective Echoes exhibition on the ground floor, and French artist Henri Lamy who displays vibrant figurative paintings of recognizable icons.

Art students Chiwat Wiansantia, from Silpakorn University, and Laura Caillaux, from Paris' School of Fine Arts (ENSBA), exhibit their photographs and paintings produced during their crossed residencies in France and Thailand.
After opening with the huge group exhibition gathering together work by over 100 artists, including notable names like Vasan Sitthiket, Sakwut Wisesmanee, Jitsing Somboon, and Jarut Wongkumjantra, for this special night, the folks at Hof Art Space will host a performance by the Faculty of Painting Sculpture and Graphic Arts.
Famous Bangkok illustrator and type designer Jackkrit Anantakul showcases his series of colorful comical characters in a wonderland setting.
Jedsada Tangtrakulwong and Suebsang Sangwachirapiban explore cultural integration in Southeast Asia and ASEAN through works of various media, including shadow puppets.

The selected work by Austrian artist Doris Kraushaar will be exhibited at this gallery in Rama III. The artist will be present along with H.E. The Austrian Ambassador.
