Set to include several clubs, restaurants and private rooms occupying the top two floors of Sathorn Square, one of the most hyped nightlife arrivals in years, Ku De Ta, is finally set to open Oct 18 for a private launch party and Oct 19 to the public. Although the opening has been delayed for several months already, this is the first time Ku De Ta has set an actual date and sent out invites to the launch, meaning we're pretty confident this is finally it.

As you can see from the slideshow renderings, Ku De Ta seems to be going for a more themed approach to its decor, meaning the vibe should be more baroque than minimal--or more Maggie Choo's than (the recently closed) Bed Supperclub. One key selling point is that the views are quite extraordinary (we had a chance to visit the construction site a while back) although Ku De Ta is almost entirely indoors except for a small terrace for smokers.

There are three restaurants, seven themed bars, two clubs and some private event spaces. Initially, only the first floor will open: Ku Bar, Izakaya (a Japanese robatayaki and ramen bar restaurant) and Signature (modern Asian fine dining, like the one in Singapore).

To survive, Ku De Ta will have to shift how Bangkokians club and how they spend. Will locals be lured by the one million baht memberships and the prospect of champagne bottles delivered to their tables by a small platoon of waitresses firing sparklers? So far, swanky imported brands (like Zuma) have met with a lukewarm response here, but Ku De Ta promises it will have a wider range of price points to please everyone, not just the deep-pocketed. Lunch sets at Izakaya should start from B350, for example. It'll be exciting to see if Ku De Ta succeeds in changing how we dine out and club, and manages to mix up the super rich and young professionals.
