1. El Mercado

This cool little food market hides away in the middle of Ratchada-Rama 4. The large deli counter stocks cheese and charcuterie from Europe while the cold storage room is packed with fresh imported seafood, mainly from France and Spain, like Fine de Claire oysters, Mediterranean seabass and turbot. Though there’s no food menu here, they’re happy to put together a sandwich using their cheeses, cold-cuts and Amantee’s delicious bread—and they won't mark up the prices either. El Mercado’s resident chef can even whip up delicious dishes from the available produce, but don’t expect restaurant service—they have to prepare everything a-la-minute and it can take time. The place also stocks some coffee and wine. Dry products such as flour, spices and nuts will be available soon.

2. Arno’s

Serving what some Bangkokians claim is the “best steak in town,” Arno’s manages to combine a butchery with a restaurant by offering basically any cut you would find at your local market, plus the opportunity for them to cook and serve it to you at no extra cost. Just pick your cut at the counter, tell the chef how you want it prepared, and then take a seat. French butcher/chef Arnaud Carre—aided by his partners Supanit Chaiyawiwat and Siripong Luengvarinkul—offers beef that is dry-aged in-house for at least 45 days, plus lamb, pork, chicken and some seafood.

3. Nippon Kai Market

The Japanese restaurant chain showcases its market concept at this flagship branch. The two-story building features marketplace-like counters and shelves on its ground floor and restaurant seating upstairs. There are also a few counter seats downstairs for you to see the fresh fish and watch the chef filleting it at the station. Best of all though are the deals they roll out on certain items, like B180 foie gras sushi from the regular B300 every Thursday. Follow their Line account for updates.

4. El Toro

The owners of Grand Beef Farm in Pitsanulok and Birdie’s Bread Boutique (which makes buns for restaurants like Chef Bar and Crab and Claw) opened up this butcher-slash-eatery right on Sukhumvit. The main focus here is on cuts of beef from their own farm, as well as imported ones from Australia, New Zealand and Argentina, along with some house-made bacon and Brazilian-style sausages. One side of the place is dedicated to the meat counter, where you can select your own cut and let the restaurant char-grill it for you. There’s also a Brazilian churrasco (big skewered meat) buffet option at B1,800 per person.
