Bangkok is no stranger to street eats but food trucks are the latest, most fashionable form of roadside dining. We pick our favorites.

Daniel Thaiger

Daniel Thaiger

The burger truck that started it all left behind its digs on Sukhumvit Soi 38, after news the street food hub would be shut down. Now anchored on Sukhumvit Soi 23 (outside Whisgars and Craft), the truck continues to serves its juicy patties and delicious buns, a combo BK readers recently voted the best in Bangkok. Expect a swarm of people basking in that same smokey, buttery aroma, enjoying their Thaiger burger (B139) or Mr. Steve (B170) along with an ice-cold craft beer.

Sukhumvit Soi 23, 084-549-0995. Open Tue-Sun 5:30pm-late. www.fb.com/DanielThaiger

Summer Street

This seafood specialist is a real afternoon crowd-pleaser. Situated a few steps from the start of Ari Soi 2, close by the popular Tokyobike Shop Bangkok, this white Kinfolk magazine-worthy truck serves up fresh grilled seafood like giant freshwater prawn (B120) and squid (B120), plus seafood platters priced from B399 to B999. Beers include Singha (B90) and Hoegaarden (B180).

Pizza Massilia

Anchored at Sala Daeng’s MK Gold parking lot, this new food truck stems from a collaboration between two French and Italian powers, namely French restaurateur Frederic Meyer (Issaya Siamese Club and Namsaah Bottling Trust) and Italian chef Luca Apino (La Bottega di Luca). And the pizza is pretty amazing. In addition to the classic margherita (B250/400), other options include spicy andouja and garlic (B380), the French-inspired la ratatouille (B400) and baby squid provencal (B300). Drinks range from limonata and orangeade to wine and Italian draft beer.

MK Gold Parking Lot, Silom Soi 1 (Sala Daeng), 02-259-9294, 094-552-2025. Open Tue-Sun 11:30am-2:30pm, 5:30-10pm. BTS Sala Daeng. www.pizzamassilia.com

Kofuku

Kofuku may be Bangkok's oldest food truck, having been around for over three years, and is possibly the only one serving Japanese comfort food. A hearty and substantial portion of katsukare rice can be had for a wallet-friendly B75. There are also appetizers such as gyoza (B50) and the tonkatsu sandwich (B45)—a Western-influenced hybrid.

Town in Town, Lad Phrao Soi 94. Open daily 6pm-1am. www.fb.com/kofuku.japanese.sandwich

Bud's Barbeque

This truck serves up slow-cooked ribs (B280/500g), pulled pork sandwiches (B180) and charbroiled handcrafted sausages (B160). Other menu options include the charbroiled sirloin beef and chicken burgers (B180 for 150g patty/B280 for double) with bacon and cheddar or Swiss cheese. Make it your own by adding free toppings and condiments, including caramelized or fresh onions, roasted or fresh peppers, lettuce, tomato, pickles, arugula, olives and sauerkraut. Though they won't reveal the secret of their barbecue sauce, you can take home a bottle at B120-140/250ml.

Typically stationed on Suan Phlu Soi 8, Sathorn Rd., 092-914-5868. Open 4-10pm. See more at ow.ly/SMPeU

Full Moon Food Truck

Run by two guys from New York City, Full Moon Food Truck (formerly Cheese Break BKK) has found a home at JJ Green (Chatuchak, BTS Mo Chit) serving up yet more American comfort food to the market-going masses. The highlight has to be the Philly cheese steak sandwiches (pork or chicken B150, beef B190). You can also enjoy artery-clogging goodness in the form of the mac n’ cheese and cheese fries (both with chef’s signature smoked gouda cheese sauce, B70).

Foodstop Bangkok

Food blogger Duangkamol Vephula Waagensen, of Prae’s Kitchen fame, has brought Danish hot dogs to town. The yellow Foodstop (IG:foodstopth) truck serves rød pølse, a Danish-style long and crispy sausage in a bun with mustard, ketchup, imported remoulade sauce, chopped and fried onions. On top of the Danish dog (B180), the truck also offers variations including French hot dog (B170) in a baguette, salsa dog (B200) and curry dog (B200).

On the move. See the full schedule at www.fb.com/foodstopth061-402-4484

Orn the Road

This orange four-wheel kitchen serves char-broiled burgers. Burgers come at two different price points depending on the grade of the patty: the regular and the executive. Try the original Bangkok Burger, cooked with spices and Thai herbs, at B120 for regular, or the Black ‘n’ Blue with a kick of house blended cajun spices, topped with grilled onions and blue cheese sauce (B140). Add fries on the side for B30, along with their signature dips.

In front of JTC Building, Silom Rd., 095-628-0416. Open Tue-Sat 5:30pm-midnight. See more at www.fb.com/orntheroadbkk

Two Angels Tacos

Named after two cities of angels, Los Angeles and Bangkok, this colorfully painted truck serves up the specialty tacos. Pattanapong Sakduang has partnered up with LA-born Le Cordon Bleu graduate Chris Ostray, who formerly worked at LA names like Pigg, Wexlers' Deli, Wood and Wine and Bastide before landing in Thailand and teaming up with Chiang Mai's Rustic and Blue. The tacos here are served with house-made corn tortilla, made using imported corn masa from California. Fillings include classics like al pastor (pork) and carne asada (beef), as well as Thai twists like gai yang somtam (grilled chicken with papaya salad) and tom yum gung, all priced at B60 each. Other than tacos, they are serve choriqueso (open tortilla with Mexican chorizo and melted cheese and shrimp ceviche on tostada.

Popping up around Bangkok in locations like Soi Rangnam and Thonglor Soi 1. See more at www.fb.com/TwoAngelsTacos

Deli-Q Bangkok

Mainly anchored at Wishbeer Home Bar (Sukhumvit Rd., between soi 63 and 65) while also moving around the city, this new food truck specializes in Southern-style barbecue meats, which are then stuffed in options such as the pulled pork sandwich (B190) with choices of slaw and sauces. The old-fashioned grilled cheese (B150) is made Wisconsin-style from a recipe that the owner says has been passed down through generations. Their sandwiches are made with bread from the new Ciao Pane.

Mother Trucker

This former Khao San-based black food truck specializes in super-sized burgers stuffed with a premium, juicy 150-gram jumbo pork or beef patty, arugula, Aussie cheese, bacon and a breaded onion-ring. Add more onion rings on the side or go nuts and double, triple or even quadruple it up making it a beast of a burger. If this is your first time, we'd recommend sticking to a single patty, though. It's more than enough and plenty delicious. Now appearing all over town, from Silom to Pinklao.

Cactus

This taco is co-owned by a Le Cordon Bleu graduate, who's based his specialty tacos on traditional Mexican recipes. The truck's offerings include the special flour tortilla chips with salsa (B60) or guacamole (B100), tacos (two per serving) with fillings like chicken tinga (B160), al pastor (pork, B180), shredded beef (B200) and the vegetarian cocoa bean, corn and zucchini (B150). Or opt for the trio option (one each of chicken, pork and beef) at B300. We're impressed not only with the flour and corn tortilla, made in-house from scratch, but also the salsas ranging from sweet-and-sour pineapple to hot and smoky. Currently parked mainly on Suan Phlu Soi 8 from 6:30pm, the truck is also a regular at Silom Soi 8's Whiteline bar and gallery every Friday and is will soon join some farmers' markets. Exact locations are updated on its Facebook.

Nana nightclubbers have a new place for a late-night feed. Parked in front of the Ambassador Hotel, the Taco Taxi food truck is not at all hard to spot, with its bright yellow paint job and matching table sets. Operated by the same people behind the soi's Tex-Mex establishment Charley Brown's Mexicana, here you can expect the same tacos (B60 each) with fillings like shredded chicken or beef, pork al pastor, yucatan pork, crispy bacon and jalapeno prawns. You can choose between hard and soft shell, or add an extra B10 for the double-decker option (both shells glued together with refried beans). The truck also sells so-called Mexican smoothies (B100), aka frozen margaritas, in lime, strawberry and passion fruit flavors.

In front of Ambassador Hotel, Sukhumvit Soi 11, 086-787-8064. Open Mon-Sat 8:30pm-3:30am. BTS Nana. on.fb.me/1OoQ9es

ManhattanMango

Inspired by the city that never sleeps, this bright-sky-bluetruck serves a variety of light snacks, mains, desserts and beverages. But what sets it apart is that almost every dish centers on one key ingredient: mango. Highlights include the spicy calamari mango salsa with fried flat bread (B120), sweet-and-sour mango with soho chicken rice (B75) and spicy green mango salad with shrimp (B85). To drink, try the Skyscraper mango iced-tea (B65), with crispy mango bubble.

The truck is currently on the move, but you can typically catch it at the regular Art Box markets. For more, see www.manhattanmango.com
