A Stimulant by Sarnies

The people behind one of the busiest cafes in Singapore have brought their coffee roasting to the garden of Thai restaurant Kram. Taking over two shipping containers separated by a metal   staircase, Sarnies is split into a coffee roasting zone with an industrial-grade roaster, and a stylishly minimal, eight-seater coffee bar. This cafe puts a lot of stock into perfecting its roast profiles, all in view of the customers.

113 Sukhumvit Soi 39 (Soi Phop Mit). Open Wed-Sun 9am-5pm.

Baker Gonna Bake

Clean white walls and light-wood furniture are punctuated with handicraft touches and splashes of natural greenery in this charming space. They offer bread and pastries galore (the fudge brownies
are to die for) as well as savory dishes like Thai charcoal-braised chicken and eggs Benedict. Coffee comes in inventive forms like the Zesty Mocha, with hints of orange and cardamom.

Sukhumvit Soi 26, 092-651-6463. Open Thu-Tue 9:30am- 6:30pm. BTS Phrom Phong.

39Espresso

If you want a taste of authentic Australian-style coffee then this is the spot for you. Using a mix of local and Aussie beans, they serve a killer flat white at a reasonable price. They also have an array of cakes and baked goods—be sure to try the fudge brownies—as well as various teas and Italian sodas. The interiors combine white-washed brick walls with dark woods, hanging bulbs and greenery.

665 Sukhumvit Soi 39, 092-753-8928. Open Mon-Sat 7am-5pm. BTS Phrom Phong.

Brainwake Cafe

If you’re not drawn to the leafy facade of this palatial diner, you will be by the display of Japanese pastries inside. Head to their library shelves and park up for the afternoon with a good latte, or enjoy the properly stocked bar. Food is a cheap and cheerful mix of Thai one-dish classics, Western breakfast staples and sandwiches.

Grind Size

The palette of turquoise offers colorful relief from the stock coffee-shop look of concrete on wood, while the coffee bar highlights two blends from local micro-roasters in Bangkok and Chiang Mai (also available to purchase and grind at home), along with rotating filter coffee, cold brew coffee and tea. Grab yourself a coffee and croissant on weekday mornings (7-9am), or drop by for brunch

Sukhumvit Soi 39, 091-774-3653. Open daily 9am-6pm. BTS Phrom Phong.

Holey Artisan Bakery

Phrom Phong foodies head here to grab their morning bread fix. Bangladeshi owner Nasirul Alam Porag is a sourdough fanatic, so consequently his unbleached flour loafs have a deliciously aerated,
chewy texture. Be sure to pick up a slice of sinfully dense drizzle cake after tucking into a porchetta panini or butter croissant. The bakery also serves coffee and cold-pressed juice.

245/12 Sukhumvit Soi 31, 02-101-1427. Open Tue-Sun 7am-6pm. BTS Phrom Phong.

Simple Natural Kitchen

The friendly staff at this restaurant and grocery store are always on hand to chat about their products’ origins, from the dried local fruit to the pure moringa oil. The menu ranges from tropical acai
bowls to a hearty full English.

Sweet Pista

Cheesecakes, kakigori and crumbles provide Phrom Phong’s dessert-seekers with good reason to route out this sleek, bare concrete cafe in a residential neighborhood. But the menu also packs
some full-on meaty flavor courtesy of a dry-aging fridge packed with slabs of US beef. Burgers and chicken waffles make all-day crowd-pleasers, while those after a good cheese-steak won’t be disappointed either.

Sukhumvit Soi 31, 02-662-2866. Open Tue-Sun 11am-10pm. BTS Phrom Phong.

Veganerie Concept

This former vegan dessert cafe serves savory dishes that go well beyond salads. Offerings include zucchini pasta with tomato sauce and vegan sausage, “pulled pork” burger made with mushrooms, and “chicken” massaman curry served with air-fried roti. Veganerie’s signature desserts are all here, too, like the cashew nut paste-based cheese pies and waffles as well as smoothies. There’s a corner to shop vegan grocers, too.

35/2 Soi Methi Niwet, Sukhumvit Rd., 02-258-8489, 087-443-3728. Open daily 10am-10pm. BTS Phrom Phong.

Wonderwall

Designed by the masterminds at Be Grey (think Karmakamet and Casa Lapin) this stylish cafe is tucked away in an apartment building and comes replete with the familiar combination of exposed brickwork, hanging ferns, wooden furniture and black window frames. With an unpretentious, friendly vibe, both espresso and drip coffee are on offer, as well as various cakes and pastries and a limited food menu.

Avora 31 Residence, 28 Sukhumvit Soi 31, 086-528-2824. Open Mon-Sat 7:30am-7pm; Sun 10am-7pm. BTS Phrom Phong.
